As some of you may have noticed, I erroneously awarded Kate Winslet seven Oscar nominations yesterday rather than the five (including her current one for Little Children) she has so far received. My subsequent attempt to link her in spirit to Peter O'Toole, who jointly held the record of seven nominations with no wins with Richard Burton until this year (when O'Toole received his eighth) therefore made no sense at all. Blame the lateness of the hour and a sudden rush of blood to the head brought on by an unfamiliar attack of patriotic fervour. Or blame the fact that journalists now have erroneous facts a mere mouse-click away on the internet, whereas in the past we had to actually do proper research before getting things wrong. Sorry.
